It's Not the Where, So Much as the How
This is the reason that my life story is not a best-selling novel. That, and the fact that I haven't written it yet.
No one would be interested in reading my life story because a truly successful biography combines an interesting destination with a somewhat interesting journey. People don't seek out biographies of unknowns or memoirs of average people. There has to be some sort of fate twist to get their attention.
I'm just an average person. I am not a celebrity, or a pioneer. I have not overcome disease or disability, persevered against discrimination. led a journey that is a triumph of the human spirit. I am just here.
What I have is half of the equation. I have a fairly interesting back story. I have lived through some unusual circumstances and gained insight from them. As a result, I am curious about the events that have led up to some of the notorious discoveries and inventions of our time.
I know that necessity led to many inventions. A moment of genius, where someone just grabbed whatever was on hand to fix something that had been driving them nuts. We've all had these moments. An invention or innovation of this sort is lurking right around the corner, all of the time. Bearing that in mind, a person could always be on the verge of finding an innovation that revolutionizes the world.
Would you even know it?
The other part of that is the pre-discovery time. In order to discover, you have to actively seek to understand or find. Even though you might be seeking something else. Columbus, for example...that tool. Discovery is an active process related to investigation. It may not be more creative than invention, but it requires a great deal of diligence.
I wonder. Like **TS** said to me once, "the bravest man in the world is the one who tried (cow's) milk for the first time." I added, "or eggs." But think about the things they may have tried before they figured out the milk part. Of course, they observed the animal's offspring, so they had an idea. What about eggs? It's the concept of discovering and trying this sort of thing that intrigues me.
Though, I have never seen the biography of the first man to eat an egg.
