And....Go

Wes and I went downtown to the court complex and filed for divorce today. The clock starts today, and 64 days hence, it will be over. That's July 26th. It seems very strange. We filed our paperwork and then we went out for lunch. Odd. You would think we should hate each other a little more, since we are divorcing. Really, this is typical of our entire relationship: it's very lukewarm. I've heard it described as sibling-like. That's accurate.

When we walked into the building, we had to approach the information desk to get directions to the file clerk's desk. Wes threw his arm around me and gave me a jovial squeeze while telling the guy, "We need to get divorced!" He said this with a glib and disturbingly jolly tone. I wanted to kick him in the nuts. He did it again at the clerk's counter, and I asked him not to ever do it again. He said, "You can see why we are getting divorced."

For those counting, this makes three divorces. "Divorce" is a word that looks funny when you pluralize it. I guess you aren't supposed to. I made the joke to my friends that I'm getting a frequent shopper deal at the courthouse. Two more divorces, and I get a free sandwich.

I have to laugh because I would climb a tower with a rifle if I didn't.

I made a new driving CD for myself last night. I think it is, quite possibly, the best damn mix CD I have ever made for myself. This is something I have started doing, every few months. I made one in October/November. It was pretty good, but it had a preponderance of Flogging Molly on it. That wears on you, after a while. Plus, there were a few song on there that weren't really singable, and were too slow for driving. Blah. Then, I made a new one in December. It was punky and fun, and had a few songs from the earlier generation CD on it. It has served me well, but the Dresden Dolls tunes at the end of it were always out of place. Now, it has started to skip during Missed Me, and that is so not cool. So, I made a new one.

The new CD fits so beautifully with the season, and with the speed of my commute. Not only did I select good songs that feel rockety, but I also placed them in nearly perfect order. They blend well, with the pace and tone shifting in one lovely arc. It was a moment of genius, I think. I'm pleased, and the commute has become more enjoyable.

Now, of course I am going to list the contents of the CD. I don't want to hear a bunch of scrutiny and criticism over my music selection. There are reasons for all of them, and they all have a place. So, be kind.
