This will not work

I let my membership on Match.com lapse after one month because it was so much worse than Yahoo personals. What crap. I liked the fact that they had a mutual match tool, and a reverse match. Unfortunately, it was a garbage in/garbage out situation.

I got a message this morning from a guy whose hobbies were "day drinking and going to Vegas". How is that anything like what I was after? Ugh.

Then, I saw this guy in New York who kept reading my ad. He came up repeatedly. I am quite certain that he is either insane or the most annoying man on the planet. Possibly both. His entire profile is full of advice to women as to how to land a man. Seriously, regardless of the question, he has filled the space with this rambling diatribe.

The tenets of his big plan to help women land their dream man include gems like: "Lose some weight and make yourself attractive to the one you desire" and "The relationship is not a part of your life, it is the center of your life, so you should set aside things for him". HUH? Fuck that guy.

I firmly believe that if you change yourself to be with someone, you are asking for trouble. You create a scenario in which the one you want is in a relationship with the one you think he wants you to be, and not yourself. Eventually, that act ends and you have two very unhappy people. One person feels that they are not understood or loved for who they are--and they deserve that. The other one spends a lot of time trying to figure out what happened to the person they loved.

I know the pronoun agreement is totally fucked up in that paragraph, but I hate writing "he or she". Give me a break. Sins of grammar.

I have been listening to Bad Religion this week. (Stranger than Fiction.) I love that album. Every song is great. The lyrics are razor-sharp and precisely fitted together. I admire that, because it shows writing skill. It's not easy to fit some of the words they use into a rhyme scheme, or a syllable pattern. And they rock.

So, I head off to get ready for work, and leave you with one of my favorite songs from the album.

Slumber
Artist: Bad Religion
Album: Stranger Than Fiction

so, you're feeling unimportant,
'cuz you've got nothing to say,
and your life is just a ramble,
no one understands you anyway

well, I've got a piece of news, son,
that might make you change your mind,
your life is historically meaningful,
and spans a significant time

slumber will come soon,
and you are helping put it to sleep,
side by side we do our share faithfully
assuring that slumber will come soon

well, now do you feel a little better?,
lift up your head and walk away,
knowing we're all in this together,
for such a short time anyway

there is just no time to parade around sulking,
I would rather laugh than cry,
the rich, the poor, the strong, the weak,
we share this place together,
and we pitch in to help it die

I'm not good at giving morals,
and I don't fear the consequence,
if life makes you scared and bitter,
at least its not for very long
