Truck driver sentenced to life in prison - Yahoo! News
I'm sure I talked about this when it happened. It's too horrible to ignore.
I understand that this guy's attorney feels that he has been treated unfairly. Maybe that's true, but life in prison without parole is fairly gentle, considering the charges.
He was paid to ship human cargo, but he forgot the human side of it--and of himself, apparently. When people started dying, he ran. He ran, and left them locked in, and more of them died because of that.
How do you do something so selfish? He ran away, but that's not the problem. The problem is that he couldn't even stop to unlock the doors and let them have air. To run from other people's suffering when you are able to help them is truly sick. It reflects poor character, at the least. A lack of compassion and humanity.
Such disregard seems to indicate a disposition that does not lend itself to walking away, freely. I suppose life in prison is better than no life at all.
